Where to Stay in Boquete – Quick Answers!

Boquete Neighbourhoods

When it comes to choosing accommodation in Boquete, you will find the majority of options clustered in town. There are several guesthouses and hostels scattered along the main road and even more once you start to explore the blocks off the throughway.

The higher-end resorts tend to benefit from a rural setting such as Palo Alto, which can make them more tricky to get to. Renting a car or using taxis is a good way for travellers to access accommodation options out of walking distance.

All of the places to stay in or around the town centre are easily accessible on foot and close to local amenities, including restaurants and bars. Those staying a little further out of town will likely have to rely on cars to get to where they want to be. Higher-end accommodation establishments will often feature their own in-house restaurant but you should always check in advance if this is important to you.

Best Hotels in Boquete, Panama

1. The Inn at Palo Alto ($$$)

One of the most popular hotels in Boquete, the Inn at Palo Alto is the top choice for those wanting a little R&R from their stay. Sitting on the slopes of the epic Baru Volcano, the Inn at Palo Alto is surrounded by lush mountains and coffee plantations, really immersing you in nature.

This boutique hotel offers a luxury experience with a range of rooms from standard doubles to family suites. There is an on-site jacuzzi which is well-maintained, as a well as swimming pool with wonderful countryside views. Massage service is available for an extra fee – ideal for working out the kinks after a long day on the trails!

While The Inn at Palo Alto is not located in Boquete town itself, it is well-connected and sits on a bus route to the centre. The nearest restaurant is around a 20-minute walk from the hotel so it is a better option to head into town to find places to eat.

2. Boquete Garden Inn ($$$)

Voted the number one B&B in Panama and the third best in Central America, it is safe to say they know what they are doing at Boquete Garden Inn. This popular hotel features seven cabañas, all dotted around a wonderful landscaped garden.

Offering a boutique hotel experience for a reasonable price, Boquete Garden Inn is a great choice for couples who want to enjoy each other’s company in a serene environment. A three-course breakfast is served daily in the garden, where over 100 species of bird have been spotted.

Each room has its own private terrace and there is also a jacuzzi on site. All guests are given a drinks voucher to use during ‘social hour’ which takes place at Bar Diablicos nightly. This entitles the holder to a complimentary alcoholic drink and offers a great opportunity to meet fellow travellers.

3. Bambuda Castle ($)

Those looking for budget-friendly accommodation with a sociable vibe will adore Bambuda Castle. Sitting on a hill, the castle offers a range of novel accommodation which is bound to make you feel like royalty!

Despite being a hostel, there are plenty of amenities here from a solar-heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and foosball table. Even despite its price tag, Bambuda Castle feels more like a resort than a hostel! This place generally attracts a young crowd of backpackers, who flock here for the cheap and cheerful dorm rooms.

If dorms aren’t your thing, increase the magic by booking a stay in one of their cute hobbit houses. These small self-contained casas promise a stay you won’t forget. Bambuda Castle is around a 45-minute walk from the centre of town so be prepared to get taxis if your legs aren’t up to the task!

4. Gaia Lodge ($$)

A pleasant mid-range hotel located close to the river. It is a good option for those on a budget who still enjoy a bit of privacy. Gaia Lodge offers everything from twin rooms with shared bathrooms to ensuite family rooms. There is an on-site kitchen for guest use which makes cooking your own meals easy.

The property is set back from the main road which ensures a peaceful environment, however, it is just a stone’s throw from the town, meaning that taxis, restaurants, bars and buses are only a five-minute walk away.

Relax in a hammock with a book or take a while to enjoy watching the resident hummingbirds. This is a beautiful spot which allows you to feel close to nature while still being conveniently located. It is a short walk to Hello Travel Panama tourism agency. This is ideal if you are catching a shuttle to another destination within Panama after you check out. They provide shuttles to Santa Catalina, Bocas del Toro and David, among others.

5. Boquete Tree Trek ($$$)

Calling all adventurous travellers! The Boquete Tree Trek adventure park is located in the hills of Palo Alto. They offer a range of accommodations from private rooms, to cute cottages and deluxe glamping set inside geodesic domes.

The accommodation provided here is truly beautiful, however, it is the on-site activities that make this such a great place to stay in Boquete. Ideal for families, Boquete Tree Trek is the home of hanging bridges, zip-lining and coffee tours which means you have a range of activities right on your doorstep.

As this is an out-of-town location, there is a restaurant and coffee shop on site. Boquete Tree Trek also run shuttles back to their office in Plaza Los Establos in downtown Boquete so getting to the centre is easy. Ideal for nature lovers with stunning mountain views, this area is one of the best places in Panama to spot the resplendent quetzal – make sure you keep your eyes peeled for flashes of green!

6. Downtown Suites ($$)

One of the best Boquete hotels, Downtown Suites has somewhat of a suburban northern America vibe about it. Located in Boquete town centre close to Caldera River, the property offers six suites which cater to two, four or five people.

All of the accommodation options have a dining room, lounge, fully-equipped kitchen and covered terrace, not to mention access to a private communal garden. Dogs are welcome but this comes at an additional cost.

The suites are clean and cosy, not to mention centrally located. Although no food is served on-site, it is easy to sample Panamanian cuisine in town or simply stock up on groceries to prepare your own food. Laundry service is available for a small fee.

7. Selina Boquete ($$)

Perched along the main road through Boquete, Selina Boquete is a stellar example of everything that the chain is trying to achieve. Catering largely to flashpackers, Selina offers a wide range of rooms to suit all budgets, from shared dorms to private suites. The most novel accommodation option they have are the tube rooms which offer a cosy stay for couples or solo travellers in a cylindrical container.

A range of activities and events are hosted here, from sports screenings to morning yoga. The bar is the place to go in the evenings – keep an eye out for quiz nights and bingo where you can win food and drink prizes from the bar/restaurant.

Selina offers co-working at all of their accommodations, however, there is an extra cost for this. Instead, I recommend pitching up and working from one of their communal areas. There is a tour desk on-site, however, better prices for excursions can be found around town.

8. Hotel Finca Lerida ($$$)

This coffee plantation and boutique hotel offers an exceptional luxury stay in the foothills of Volcan Baru National Park. Built by Toleff Bache Mönniche, an engineer who worked on the famous Panama Canal, Finca Lerida has become one of the best hotels in Boquete.

Since its inception, the finca has become a leading exotic coffee producer and has been exporting some of Panama’s finest joe since the ‘20s. It is possible to tour the plantations with an experienced local guide, learning about the preparation of the drink and even getting to sample some of the best.

Offering suites and vintage rooms with Norwegian-style decor, this is a wonderful place to escape from the hubbub of the town. Those who appreciate the finer things in life will appreciate the on-site gourmet restaurant, La Brulerie.

9. Agaseke Lodge Boquete ($)

Probably the best pick in Boquete for shoestring travellers, Agaseke Lodge is a family-run hotel just a stone’s throw from the town centre. Expect a warm welcome from the owners and the two cute dogs!

Private rooms and beds in shared dorms are offered with prices starting at just $10USD a night. There is a large garden and well-equipped kitchen which means it is easy to rustle up your own meals. Drinking water is provided for free.

The communal areas encourage socialising, however, you won’t find much of a party atmosphere here. The whole place has a chilled-out vibe. The showers are hot, a big plus in Boquete where the weather is cooler, and towels are provided to all guests inclusive of the price. It is probably the best cheap option in the whole of Boquete!

Boquete is a wonderful destination that outdoor enthusiasts are bound to fall in love with. Luckily, there are plenty of excellent places to stay in Boquete, from budget offerings to bougie boutique hotels.

You can’t go wrong with The Inn at Palo Alto or Finca Lerida for a total luxury stay. Budget backpackers will be hard-pressed to find somewhere cooler than Bambuda Castle while the private rooms at Selina offer a quality mid-range option.

All of the hotels in Boquete discussed above are known for delivering fantastic experiences. Can’t choose between them? Hop between a few for a hearty dose of Panamanian hospitality.
